So, let me say, the kids on my bus think they’re so cool for smoking weed, right? 

Here are some things they said about weed, and my counter argument.

• “It’s legal. My Grandpa showed me the book of.. Rules.”
  Yeah? He did? Is he the government? No, it’s not legal- In fact, it’s illegal. It’s only used for medicinal purposes, and should only be used as such. It’s been illegal since August 2, 1937 (www.drugwarrant.com) 
  
  
• “It doesn’t do anything to you.”
  You idiot, anything that you inhale can and will do something to you! For one, it makes you smell and look awful. Two, the effects are horrible-
  >Brain damage

-Delusions
-Impaired memory
-Disorientation
-Hallucinations
Damage to the heart -> <3
-The heart starts beating more rapidly- It can increase by 20-50 beats per minute. Lower blood pressure means higher risk of heart attack (Four times more likely on first hour, and non-smokers, like myself.)
Damage to the lungs
-Daily cough/phlegm production
-More acute chest illness
-Increased risk of infections in the lungs
-Obstructed airways

>Oh yeah, did I mention the smokers are three times more likely to develop neck and head cancer than the non-smokers? I didn’t? Oh. (All of this info with the “Not harmful” section of my blog/rant is from  http://alcoholism.about.com/od/pot/a/effects.-Lya.htm )
>Also, I know this may not be confirmed by scientists, but it’s a probability.

• “It can’t kill you.”
  This is my own argument. To you know what THC does to you? It takes out the sugar in your body- Why? Think about it, marijuana is a plant. What do plants do? Photosynthesize. I know they don’t /use/ sugar to photosynthesize, but they need it for themselves. To stay alive.
  
  >Also, driving high is very dangerous. When you abuse the substance, what if you get into a car crash? Could kill you. How innocent is it now?
  
  
• “It makes me a badass.”
  >My final argument. No, it’s a gateway drug, and it makes you look like a shithead. In all honesty, smoking at 12-18 isn’t cool. It never has been, and never will be. Why do you have to waste your life away so young? It’s ridiculous that it’s apparently the new thing to be a stoner. Why is this cool? Because everyone else is doing it?
  
  >As my closing statement, and summary, I encourage you not to smoke weed if you don’t use it for medicinal purposes, (i.e. appetite, insomnia) you really shouldn’t smoke it. Also, I would like to say I’m neutral on marijuana being legalized- It would sure boost our economy, but like I stated in my above arguments, it should be used strictly for medicinal purposes. Weed is harmful- They haven’t been able to scientifically prove it, but being high is abusing a substance, which is illegal, no matter what, especially behind a wheel. Finally, being the stereotypical stoner is nothing to be proud of, and it certainly does not make you cool to smoke anything from the ages 12-18- It’s wasting your life away.
